An explanation...

For those of you who read the comments after the previous post, and thought it weird that someone would leave a bowl of cereal on my mom's grave, I wanted to share the reason behind it. When I was about 5 and Josh was 3, we woke up early on Mother's Day to surprise our mom with breakfast in bed. Since our culinary skills weren't that great yet, we fixed the one thing we were capable of. Cold cereal. With no milk. (Because I don't eat milk on my cereal and didn't think that others might like it.) It was a bowl of Lucky Charms. And after each couple of stairs we would set the tray down to rest our arms, and sneak a few of the marshmallows. By the time we got to the top we had eaten all but one which was arranged prominently on top of the bowl to draw the eye and disguise the fact that all the rest were gone. That was one of my mom's favorite stories from when we were little and over the years it became a tradition to give her breakfast in bed, which was a bowl of dry cereal with all but one of the marshmallows picked out. But then she could come downstairs for a real breakfast, that wasn't half bad the older we got. I don't know if it was Josh or Caitlin who left the cereal, but it made me smile. I've got some pretty neat siblings.

Thanks for telling that story. Of course I was curious about it. I thought it was significant that the only marshmellow was a rainbow... what a sweet memory to have. Thanks again for sharing.

Kim and I snuck away from church on Sunday to visit your mom's grave. When I saw the cereal, I started to cry. (Your mom had shared the story with me years ago.) But as soon as Kim saw it, he asked, "Who left the cat food?" So, then I had to laugh. Whoever did it, I thought it was incredibly sweet and certainly touched my heart!
