The letter P

Every day that I pick Jake up from preschool I ask what he learned. On Tuesday we had this conversation.
Mom: "How was school?"
Jake: "Fine"
M: "So what did you learn today?"
J: "About P"
M: "Oh? What about P?"
J: "You know, words that start with P"
M: "Ok, so what word start with P?"
J: "Passion"
M: "Passion?"
J: "Yeah"
M: (trying for a casual tone of voice) "Who brought up passion?"
J: "Me"
M: (mentally) *Of course it was my child...* "What did Miss Heidi say about passion?"
J: "Oh nothing, I just said it to my self."
M: *Thank heaven for small favors* "Do you know what passion means?"
J: "No"
M: "OK, it means you feel very strongly about something, you either love it or hate it."
J: "OK, then there is a girl in my class who is passionate about popcorn. Cause she hates it."
This is not a normal conversation to have with a 4 year old. He is one smart cookie, later that day we went to the bookstore because I have been hoarding a gift certificate I got for Christmas (thank you Caite!) and he wanted to get a book too. He got his first chapter book (it was in the 7-12 year old section) called "The Littles" and he read the whole thing that day. And has read it at least once a day since. He is definitely my child. I can't wait to share all my favorite books from when I was a kid. And if anyone has any good suggestions for what's new in that age range I'd love some ideas, because apparently we are past the picture book stage.

Where did this kid come from?! Amazing!

Try "The box car children" series. Also if he's reading ages 7 - 12 he's ready for Roald Dahl. He'd probably get a kick out of BFG. But he's a link to a list of his children's books. They were always my favorites!

Hey Chrissy, He is amazing. I have several books of the Littles and all of Roald Dahl and others like Ameilia Bedila if you would care to borrow them from me. In fact, bring Jake over sometime so he can read to me... I would love that if he would...love ya, April

Definitely the Roald Dahl's I concur. Also "Treasure Island" is one that is perfect for that age range, thats when I first read it. And hey you can always start him on the Harry Potters...big with 12 year olds. I hope my kid is normal though, I would hate feeling dumber then my offspring I am sure...good luck with that...you know they say kids get their intelligence from their moms...it was a recent study...

Ok my boys-Luke in particular, is devouring The Magic Tree House Series. Just like Jake, 1 a day. Thank heavens this series goes on and on.
