Evie's Earrings

I have been meaning to post this for awhile, while we were shopping for Jake's school clothes we made a side trip at the mall and got Evie's ears pierced. This is the first picture I got where you can actually see the earrings. She has little pink stones that sparkle and glitter, she loves her pretties! And the most amazing part was when they pierced the first ear she didn't scream or cry, she just frowned at the girl like, "Excuse me, that was uncomfortable..." In about another week she'll have had them in for a month and then she can change them and wear other earrings. The other pair she has are little gold Scottie dogs, because we all know how much Evie loves dogs. We got these pictures courtesy of Uncle Josh who got an amazing new camera with part of the money he won from the golf channel, so thanks for taking great pictures Uncle Josh!

First Day of School

I officially have a Kindergartner! Today school started and Jake is going to love it. They do things a little differently then they did when I started school, I went with him for this first day and we were only there for about an hour. Tomorrow he will go back for a 20 minute one-on-one with his teacher for an assessment and get-to-know-you. Then he has the rest of the week off. So it kind of feels like school starts next week for us, but I like that they ease these little kids into it and there weren't any screaming, terrified children (or parents) to make him nervous. When we got to his class his teacher sent us on a treasure hunt to learn the layout of the school and classroom a little and get some supplies. He was thrilled that he got his very own pencil box filled with pencils, crayons, markers and so on.

We took Evie over to play with Mima this morning so that I could concentrate all my attention on Jake and this new experience, so when we went to pick her up we all went swimming for a little while. I think the hardest part of this transition will be Evie not having her best friend around in the mornings.

Freaky Fortunes

We got Chinese food last night for dinner because Mommy was having a craving that was quickly seconded by Jacob. It was very good and of course we had fun at the end opening the fortune cookies. Some were not quite realistic, like Brian's said a new opportunity in sports would come his way... whatever that could mean. Jake's said that he could look forward to a new experience this weekend, well he does start school next Monday so the new experience could be a new bedtime. Mine said that I would accomplish my short term goal. I don't have too many of those, just keeping up with the laundry perhaps. But the best was Evie's (especially if you know her at all), it said "A new pair of shoes will do you a world of good." She liked that one and kept saying, "nu shus, nu shus, nu shus..." She really loves shoes, she loves to wear hers or anyone else's. And it cracks me up that she knows the different names for them, booo-ts, cocks (that would be crocs), chuch shus, pincess shus, and (my personal favorites) slip-slops. I think we need to work on the R and F sounds, hmmmm....

New Specs

We discovered at Jake's kindergarten check-up that he had some vision problems and would need to get glasses. He finally got them last week and has been pretty good about getting used to them. Only a few times of taking them off and forgetting where he put them down. He really enjoys cleaning them with these special wipes he got from Pa Dave. And you can't see too well in the picture but the frames he chose have flames on the side, he likes to touch the sides and pretend that they "sizzle" his fingertips. We are also very excited that he will be starting school in a few weeks. (Well, he is excited and I'm getting more and more nervous...) We went school shopping with Mima Kim last Friday and it was a lot of fun to spend time with her getting Jake ready for kindergarten. He can't wait to wear all of his new clothes.

Presents!!!

Last Sunday we had a little party for Evie with the family. She got lots of fun toys and clothes from her grandparents and aunts and uncles.

This is her excited face as she was waiting to open the presents.

This is the face she made when I told her the presents weren't for her.

The new bike was from Pa Dave and Mima Kim, the outfit and the doll in the back were from mom and dad, and the necklace (which is a bunch of sparkly flowers) was from Caite and Patrick.
Thanks everyone for such a great party!

A Jacob Observation

Today we were at my cousin's baby blessing. We had a nice lunch in the park across the street afterwards and the kids loved being able to run and play. As we were getting ready to go Jacob came up to me with a small chunk of concrete and asked if he could bring it home for his rock collection. I said, "Sure." But the problem was that his daddy had just told him no, but being a sneaky 5 year old he thought he could get around that. I gave him a "mom" look and told him that if dad says no, then that is that. Jake looked at me in disbelief and said, "But mom, you're in charge!" From the mouths of babes, right?

*and no, he was not allowed to bring the rock home because despite what some of you might think, Brian and I are actually a team and we try to parent with a united front...
