Jake's World

Last Sunday in Relief Society our lesson was on teaching our children.  One of the things that really struck me from the discussion was what we teach by example.  Case in point, I blog.  I blog a lot.  It is a combination of journaling and photo journaling that fulfills the same need for me as scrap-booking for a fraction of the cost.  I have enjoyed exercising and improving my skills at communicating with the written word, and I like that my family and friends who are interested can keep up with my little family's adventures and woes without having to be trapped on my couch for hours looking at photos when they come visit.  I also love the community of family and friends who's lives I can keep up with the same way.

Back to the teaching part... Jake has been begging me for his "own" blog for nearly a year.  At first I said no because he didn't have the skills to work the technology required and also I am opposed to small children having email accounts, which is a prerequisite for having a blog.  He would play at "blogging" by writing his blog posts on paper and then he would beg me to post them on mine. Some of them were quite funny or sweet to read about our lives from his child-like perspective, and I am sad that I lost them.  So after much discussion and research on my part I have finally agreed  to host a blog site for him on my account so that we'll always have his memories to read. I figured that if he is showing such an interest in journaling and recording his life, that is something I should encourage and help him with.  Of course, his is going to be a private blog as I don't want just anyone having a line of communication to my child.  But if you are an interested family member or friend you can contact me for an invitation to read the musings of a somewhat un-average seven year old.  Plus I know he is just trembling in anticipation of his first comment...

That's so great! I'm glad to know at least one person got something out of the lesson. I hope Jake has lots of fun blogging!
